The Ars Magna of Ramon Llull (1232-1316) is the medieval combinatorial art - rotating letter-wheels whose letters (B-K standing for the divine attributes) generate every possible true proposition by mechanical combination. The 1517 print of the Ars Generalis Ultima (the final form, composed c. 1305) is hosted here.

Relevance to this project

The medieval precursor to combinatorial letter-generation: Llull’s wheels are the historical precedent for the idea that the letters generate the cosmos’s structure - the combinatorial logic the Sefer Yetzirah 231 gates and the paper’s generation schemes share (mages: Llull).
