About this book
Hekhalot Rabbati - the Great Palace tractate of the Maaseh Merkavah (chariot-mysticism) tradition. Rabbi Ishmael ben Elisha ascends through the seven palaces (hekalot) to behold the divine chariot (Merkavah) and the angelic liturgy - the throne-vision cosmology at the roots of later Kabbalah.
Relevance to this project
The Hechalot literature is the Jewish mystical counterpart to the throne-vision cosmology the project documents: the seven palaces mirror the seven planets / seven doubles, and the gate-ascent structure parallels the Sefer Yetzirah / Raziel gate system.
